The Foreign Language Department which has been operated as an independent department since 1984, is intended to meet the needs of patrons interested in foreign languages. 

The collection consists of:

• different course books

• grammar books and workbooks

• monolingual and bilingual dicitionaries

• methodological materials

• materials on culture

• literary works

• audio cassettes

• CDs

• DVDs

• CD-ROMs and 

• periodicals,

which provide materials for language exams of various type and level. 

There are two separate collections within the Foreign Language Deprtment as follows:

a) The Minority Collection which is intended to meet the needs of different etchnic minorities living in our county so that they could know the languages and cultures of their ancestors.

b) The Gateway UK Collection which is intended to meet the needs of those language learners who speak English at least at intermediate level and of the English language teachers. This collection consits of training kits, course books, work books, teacher's books, audio cassettes, CDs, video cassettes and CD-ROMs. 

The rules of use in the Foreign Language Department are as follows:

a) Free services for visitors:

• use of the reference collection (e.g. encyclopedia in foreign languages)

• reading periodicals

• use of CD-ROMs for language learning on the PC in the department

• listening to audio materials on the spot, with a headphone

b) Free services for members:

• borrowing loanable books and CDs or cassettes as their inserts (we have about 150 sorts of cassetts and about 60 sorts of CDs of this kind)

• borrowing materials for language learning, stored in the warehouse 

c) Fee-subjected services for members:
